Well, it’s been quite a while since I posted anything here. So sorry. I suppose that writing, like most things, comes and goes in seasons. But while blogging may have taken a brief hiatus, life has not. Here’s a brief picture of what’s happened since the last post:
- I got a new job. I now work for a financial planning company, and am studying stocks, bonds, retirement plans, and generally how to advise people about their money. I really like it. So far I’m doing a hodgepodge of website work, back office support, financial planning training, and learning the language of the world of finance.
The nerdy side of me gets to analyze, and the part of me that likes people will get to talk to clients, so it’s the best of both worlds, I think. Well, I don’t actually have any clients yet because I’m still studying to take the Series 65 test, but that day will come. I’m looking forward to helping people figure out how to use their money well!
- Summer came and went. This isn’t something that I really had much to do with, but it happened nonetheless. It was a blisteringly hot summer (especially for temperate Virginia), but a fun one. I just passed the 3-year mark for living in Charlottesville (!) and feel rather at home here. I’m still making new friends, which is good too. It would be sad to cease to meet new people.
- For anyone who wondered about the outcome of my facebook debate, I decided to keep my facebook account. I may not be completely happy with the way it’s being run, but it’s still a useful tool for connecting with friends, and I’m not ready to pull the plug there.
Just a few bullet points, but I think my trajectory has certainly changed with the change in occupation. I feel rather like a sponge, trying to soak up as much as I can about this new world of finance. It’s fascinating and complicated and maddening, and I love its complexity. I also love how each person who enters that world makes it a little different; every person has slightly different goals and thoughts about what their money is for, and I’m excited to start putting pieces of the puzzle together.
On a completely different note, today was gloriously beautiful. Hints of fall are appearing, and it was actually chilly this morning. I love it! Changing seasons make me slightly giddy. Ah, crisp fall air! Apples, pumpkins, glorious orange and yellow colors, the blue blue sky, sweaters, bonfires, boots….It’s all coming soon. The first bits have arrived, and it’s all so exciting.
